Vitamin D

What it actually is

Made in the skin on exposure to sunlight, and present in very few foods. This is the vitamin an indoor working life most reliably erodes.

What it does in the body

Needed for the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, and therefore for normal bones and teeth. It also has a role in normal muscle function and immune function.

Where else to get it

Very little Indian vegetarian food contains it. Fortified milk, egg yolk, fatty fish, and mushrooms exposed to sunlight are the realistic options.

Worth knowing in IndiaLow vitamin D status is widely documented across Indian populations, including in sunny regions — sun exposure through glass or in covered clothing does not produce it.

In the formula

If you suspect a deficiency, a blood test and a doctor's advice are the right route. A daily shake is not a substitute for either.

KABO does not publish a milligram-by-milligram breakdown of every micronutrient, so this page describes what the ingredient is and what it is needed for rather than how much of it a serving contains. The full ingredient list is printed on every pack and set out at kabo.co.in/pages/ingredients. This is general nutrition information, not medical advice — if you are pregnant, managing a medical condition or taking medication, talk to your doctor before changing what you take.
