What "fermented protein" actually means

This is the part most product pages skip. Conventional plant protein is extracted: peas or brown rice are milled, and the protein fraction is separated out from the starch and fibre. Fermented protein works the other way round — a food-grade yeast culture is fed a sugar source, allowed to multiply in a controlled tank, then harvested, washed and dried. The protein is grown rather than extracted.

That distinction matters for two practical reasons. First, because there is no legume in the final powder, the compounds in beans and pulses that some people find hard to digest are simply not there. Second, because it is a cultured process rather than an agricultural extraction, the output is more consistent batch to batch — though it also means a longer, more industrial supply chain than "peas, milled."
