Supplements to Stop Buying Before 2027
The supplements most Indian households spend the most on are, for most people, the ones doing the least. Collagen, biotin, general multivitamins, immunity blends, fat burners, detox products and greens powders all share the same problem: no gap to fill in a person who is not deficient. Here is the case against each, and what to spend the money on instead.
- A supplement only works if it fills a deficiency; for most of these, most people have none.
- Collagen is digested to amino acids like any protein and cannot be directed to your skin.
- Biotin deficiency is rare, and high doses distort thyroid and heart blood tests.
- Immunity blends, fat burners and detox products have no credible mechanism in a healthy adult.
- The money is better spent on protein, a vitamin D and B12 test, and fibre-rich food.

The one question that sorts them
Does this fill a gap I actually have? If the answer is no, the product cannot work, however good the reviews, because there is nothing for it to correct. That single test removes most of the supplement aisle for most people.
Supplements worth taking in 2027 is the short list that survives the question. This page is the longer list that does not.
Collagen
Collagen is a protein. When you eat it, it is broken into amino acids and absorbed like paneer or dal; the body does not route it to your skin. The amino acids it supplies are not the ones you are short of on an Indian diet.
If skin is the concern, the inputs with evidence are protein adequacy, sun protection, not smoking and sleep. Vegan collagen in India explains why the plant-based versions cannot contain collagen at all.
Biotin
Biotin deficiency is genuinely rare, so for most people a supplement has nothing to fix. The hair-growth claim rests on studies in people who were deficient. Worse, high-dose biotin interferes with common laboratory tests, including thyroid function and cardiac troponin, which can lead to a wrong result.
Biotin for hair growth covers the evidence and the testing problem. Hair loss usually has a reason — iron, thyroid, stress, protein — and that reason is where the money should go.
General multivitamins
For a healthy adult eating a varied diet, routine multivitamins have weak evidence. The gaps Indian diets actually have — vitamin D, B12, iron — are better addressed individually, at the right dose, after a test. A multivitamin typically under-doses the ones you need and includes a dozen you do not.
Do I need a multivitamin works through who is the exception.
Immunity blends, fat burners and detox
| Product | the claim | what the evidence says |
|---|---|---|
| Immunity blend | Fewer colds | Vitamin C and zinc do not prevent colds in people who are not deficient |
| Fat burner | Faster fat loss | No supplement produces meaningful fat loss; several carry cardiac or liver risk |
| Detox or cleanse | Removes toxins | Liver and kidneys already do this; no product adds to it |
| Alkaline water | Balances pH | Blood pH is regulated regardless of what you drink |
| Greens powder | Replaces vegetables | A spoon of dried powder does not replace a plate of vegetables or their fibre |
Fat burner supplements in India and do you need a detox go through the two with the most to lose.
What to spend the money on instead
- A vitamin D, B12 and ferritin test — the three gaps that are actually common.
- Protein at breakfast: dal, paneer, curd, eggs, soya, or a shake when a plate is not realistic.
- Fibre from whole grains, dals, vegetables and fruit; most Indian diets are well short.
- Resistance training twice a week, which outperforms every supplement on this page for muscle, bone and metabolism.
The pattern across every item here is that the dropped supplement was standing in for a food, a test or a habit. One shake or ten pills works out what the savings buy, and taking too many supplements covers the harms of stacking them.
Where KABO fits in
If you are about to replace five dropped supplements with one shake, pause. The point of this page is that most of them were filling no gap, and a product that fills no gap is a waste of money whatever form it takes.
Where a complete serving does fit is the gap that is real for most people: protein at breakfast. A KABO serving carries 25 g of complete plant protein, with 26 vitamins and minerals, 4 g fibre, 8 billion probiotics and 60+ real ingredients. If that replaces a multivitamin, a fibre sachet and a probiotic you were taking without a reason, the money saved is the point — not the swap.

Frequently asked questions
Does collagen work for skin?
Not in any way you can direct. Collagen is a protein and is digested to amino acids like any other; the body does not send it to your skin. Protein adequacy, sun protection, not smoking and sleep are the inputs with evidence.
Is biotin good for hair growth?
Only if you are deficient, which is rare. In people with normal biotin status there is no good evidence of benefit, and high doses interfere with thyroid and cardiac blood tests. Hair loss usually has a cause - iron, thyroid, stress or protein - worth finding instead.
Are immunity boosters worth it?
For people who are not deficient, no. Vitamin C and zinc do not prevent colds in well-nourished adults. Sleep, vaccination, hand hygiene and adequate protein do more for immune function than any blend.
Do fat burners work?
No supplement produces meaningful fat loss, and several sold as fat burners carry real risks to the heart or liver. Fat loss comes from a calorie deficit with enough protein to protect muscle, and from activity.
What should I buy instead of these supplements?
A vitamin D, B12 and ferritin test to find your real gaps; protein at breakfast; fibre-rich whole foods; and, if you train, creatine. That short list addresses the deficiencies Indian diets actually have, which the products above do not.
