What casein actually is
Milk protein is roughly 80% casein and 20% whey. When you separate them, you get two proteins with very different digestion speeds. Whey is soluble and absorbs quickly. The overnight claim, examined

Keeping amino acids in the blood for longer is not the same as building more muscle — and that distinction is the whole product category.
So a pre-bed protein feed is reasonable if it helps you hit your daily target. Whether it specifically needs to be casein is much less clear than the label suggests.

The Indian context nobody mentions
Casein is dairy, and lactose intolerance is common among South Asian adults. Buying a premium slow-release dairy protein and then sleeping badly because your stomach is unsettled defeats the purpose fairly comprehensively.
